Dear Parents / Caregivers,
Our August has been hit by an exceptionally cold front and some anxiety has started to creep in about the current situation in our country regarding a global pandemic. I guess it is a time to be thankful that we live in a regional community that is away from large populations. As a school our business continues as usual and we make sure that we do the best job we can to keep our children and our community safe.
However, we have also been asked to keep preparing in case we are faced with a situation where we will be learning from home. Please make sure the school has updated contact details, including email addresses, as it will become a crucial point of contact if the need arises.
Meanwhile, at school, we have decided to bring some life to our students’ leisure time. We have developed a yard activities timetable which will start next week. Staff are keen to deliver fun activities throughout the week, based on what the students have asked for through SRC: Art, craft, box-construction, music, choir and other creative opportunities for students to engage in, as well as sports and general play. Having this timetable will also once again enable violin lessons for students, as we show-cased last year on ABC TV. Our music options at Hincks jut continue to grow now that we have a dedicated music suite
Our swimming program will begin again next week starting on Friday 14th August. If your child has been involved, there will be a note in their bags today or early next week to remind you what they need to pack each Friday.
I will keep you informed on our disco. At this stage we may have to postpone due to the COVID situation evolving in Adelaide. We will make a decision by mid next week.
We warmly welcome back Jill—our story dog lady, who will be listening to our students read in the Sloths, Merry Minions and Minecrafters classes. The more practise our students have reading, the more fluent and confident they become.
Wednesday Morning (12th August) we are hosting a ‘meet and greet’ tour.
Please come along for information sharing and a tour with Melissa Gloede. We are exceptionally proud of all the great things happening at Hincks. If you know someone with a child who is turning 5 before May 1st next year, please encourage them to come and check out Hincks as a potential school option for 2021.
Assemblies will resume again next week (week 4)
Our first assembly for this term will be hosted by Rebecca Campbell and the Minecrafters.
Please come along at 10.30 on Friday morning to a see an assembly with an animation twist
All adults must continue to follow the density and physical distancing guidelines outlined by SA Health:
- no more than 1 person per 4-square metres in an enclosed space
- maintain a minimum social distance of 1.5 metres in the yard.
Library borrowing conditions for ALL borrowers.
Please provide a bag for your child to borrow Library Books. This policy is to protect our books from being damaged due to wet weather, drink bottle spillage and school bag food mishaps! HAPS Library bags are available from the front office for $10 each.
Alternatively a clean reusable grocery bag, cotton bag or similar can be used.
This is a combined community endeavour between Hincks, Gabmididi Manoo, the Aboriginal Women’s Yarning Circle, Uni SA Rural Health and other local interested parties. Ideally, we want this project to represent the needs, wants and vision of our local community. A steering committee has been developed to get the project off the ground, but we are really keen to get you, as our school community involved. If you have an interest in being part of this project, please let one of our staff know and we will get in contact.
The front office is open Monday-Friday 8:30am-3:30pm. As school does not start until 8:30am, staff do not have a duty of care for students until this time and we cannot have them inside the school grounds until 8:30am. On days where it is raining, students are allowed to stand under the front office verandah until the 8:30am bell goes.
